چکیده
Satellites have provided high-resolution ( < 100 m) water color (i.e., remote sensing reflectance) and thermal emission imagery of aquatic environments since the early 1980s; however, global operational quality products based on these data are not readily available (e.g., temperature, chlorophyll- a , turbidity, suspended particle matter). Currently, because postprocessing required, only users with expressive experience can exploit data, limiting their utility. Here, we provide paths (recipes) for nonspecialist to access derive products, along examples applications, from sensors board Landsat-5, Landsat-7, Landsat-8, Landsat-9, Sentinel-2A, Sentinel-2B. We emphasize that assured metric success in product derivation assigning uncertainties them is via validation situ data. hope this contribution will motivate nonspecialists use publicly satellite study new processes monitor variety novel received little attention date.

Radiometric Correction of Simultaneously Acquired Landsat-7/Landsat-8 and Sentinel-2A Imagery Using Pseudoinvariant Areas (PIA): Contributing to the Landsat Time Series Legacy
The use of Pseudoinvariant Areas (PIA) makes it possible to carry out a reasonably robust and automatic radiometric correction for long time series of remote sensing imagery, as shown in previous studies for large data sets of Landsat MSS, TM, and ETM+ imagery. In addition, they can be employed to obtain more coherence among remote sensing data from different sensors. The present work validates...
متن کاملA Global Analysis of Sentinel-2A, Sentinel-2B and Landsat-8 Data Revisit Intervals and Implications for Terrestrial Monitoring
Combination of different satellite data will provide increased opportunities for more frequent cloud-free surface observations due to variable cloud cover at the different satellite overpass times and dates. Satellite data from the polar-orbiting Landsat-8 (launched 2013), Sentinel-2A (launched 2015) and Sentinel-2B (launched 2017) sensors offer 10 m to 30 m multi-spectral global coverage. Toge...
متن کاملAssessing the Accuracy of Automatically Extracted Shorelines on Microtidal Beaches from Landsat 7, Landsat 8 and Sentinel-2 Imagery
This paper evaluates the accuracy of shoreline positions obtained from the infrared (IR) bands of Landsat 7, Landsat 8, and Sentinel-2 imagery on natural beaches. A workflow for sub-pixel shoreline extraction, already tested on seawalls, is used. The present work analyzes the behavior of that workflow and resultant shorelines on a micro-tidal (<20 cm) sandy beach and makes a comparison with oth...
متن کاملComparing Sentinel-2A and Landsat 7 and 8 Using Surface Reflectance over Australia
The new Sentinel-2 Multi Spectral Imager instrument has a set of bands with very similar spectral windows to the main bands of the Landsat Thematic Mapper family of instruments. While these should, in principle, give broadly comparable measurements, any differences are a function not only of the differences in the sensor responses, but also of the spectral characteristics of the target pixels. ...
متن کاملSentinel-2A MSI and Landsat 8 OLI Provide Data Continuity for Geological Remote Sensing
Sentinel-2A MSI is the Landsat-like spatial resolution (10–60 m) super-spectral instrument of the European Space Agency (ESA), aimed at additional data continuity for global land surface monitoring with Landsat and Satellite Pour l’Observation de la Terre (SPOT) missions. Several simulation studies have been conducted in the last several years to show the potential of Sentinel-2A MSI (MultiSpec...
